Play Well the focus of Australia’s first Sport Participation Strategy

Aussies are being called on to Play Well as part of the nation’s first co-designed Sport Participation Strategy just released.

With safe, welcoming, inclusive and fun experiences at the heart of it, Australia’s Sport Participation Strategy is a united approach with a vision that ‘everyone has a place in sport.’

The new strategy and the Play Well ethos compliments Australia’s High Performance 2032+ Sport Strategy, built on creating an environment where athletes and sports can Win Well.

Creating great sporting environments and experiences is central to the Play Well Strategy which focuses on people of all ages, backgrounds, genders and abilities coming together to access the benefits of sport.

This strategy belongs to us all and we invite you to join us to help make Australian sport safer, more welcoming, inclusive, and fun.

True Sport Child Safeguarding Resources Officially Launched!

The True Sport Child Safeguarding resources have been developed to assist Sporting Organisations in navigating and understanding child safeguarding information aligned to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

The National Principles aim to provide a nationally consistent approach to creating organisational cultures that foster safety and wellbeing.

Ultimately, these resources are designed to assist Sporting Organisations in commencing or continuing its journey of creating and maintaining safe environments for children and young people through the implementation of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.  Examples of resources include:

  • A self-assessment and action plan to assist Sporting Organisations to get started
  • A reporting flowchart outlining how to respond to concerns or disclosures regarding a child or young person who is a risk of harm
  • Working with Children information
  • Cyber Safety information

True Sport Child Safeguarding resources have been developed based on feedback from, and engagement with, the WA sports industry and contributions and support from members of the SportWest Child Safeguarding in Sport Advisory Group.

Have your say on the future of Sport in Australia

The Office for Sport, within the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, is developing a new National Sport Plan to harness the power of sport and physical activity to build healthy, active, connected and thriving communities.

Over the next decade, Australia will host some of the world’s largest sporting events, culminating in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Plan will be an important mechanism to deliver on the Australian Government’s commitments and priorities for sport, and to ensure success for Australia throughout the 'green and gold decade' (2022–2032) and beyond.

SportWest Connect | Coaching and Officiating

It was a pleasure to have Rugby Australia’s Head of Community Match Officials and National Match Official Graham Cooper join us for this weeks SportWest Connect Session on Officiating and Coaching

It was insightful to hear Graham's story as a match official the challenges he sees for referees through his role with Rugby Australia.

Thank to all Members who attended the session.

Women Leaders in Sport

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is committed to raising organisational standards so that all women can thrive and succeed in all workplaces within the sporting sector. We recognise that women from culturally and racially marginalised backgrounds, First Nations women, women with disability and gender diverse individuals have significantly lower representation in leadership roles in organisations big and small.
