Child-Friendly Urban Design for Better Communities and Cities

Parks and Leisure Australia (WA) along with Planning Institute Australia (PIA) are bringing renowned international expert Dr Tim Gill to Perth. Dr Gill will be presenting on Child Friendly Urban Design for Better Communities and Cities which will be held between 2pm-4pm on 17 October 2023.

This is an incredible opportunity for park managers to understand what a truly child-friendly community looks like? How does children's play fit into the picture and their mobility? Why local governments should we even worry about looking at their communities through the eyes of children?

Dr Tim Gill's talk will set out the key ingredients of a child-friendly neighbourhood, and the reasons why decision-makers around the world are taking up the idea. Drawing on over 20 years of research and advocacy, including study visits to cities in Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America, Tim will show how a 'children's lens' can transform cities into inclusive, equitable, liveable, sustainable places that are fit for the post-pandemic challenges of the 21st century.

Sports Coaching Resources

The Telethon Kids Institute are developing

educational exercise resources to improve awareness and knowledge of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) within community sport settings.

Community sport is one of the most common settings in which youth exercise. However, there are a lack of educational exercise resources available in Western Australia currently, therefore, community sport coaches feel they lack the knowledge, confidence and understanding to provide adequate support for youth living with T1D.
