True Sport Child Safeguarding Resources Officially Launched!

The True Sport Child Safeguarding resources have been developed to assist Sporting Organisations in navigating and understanding child safeguarding information aligned to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

The National Principles aim to provide a nationally consistent approach to creating organisational cultures that foster safety and wellbeing.

Ultimately, these resources are designed to assist Sporting Organisations in commencing or continuing its journey of creating and maintaining safe environments for children and young people through the implementation of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.  Examples of resources include:

  • A self-assessment and action plan to assist Sporting Organisations to get started
  • A reporting flowchart outlining how to respond to concerns or disclosures regarding a child or young person who is a risk of harm
  • Working with Children information
  • Cyber Safety information

True Sport Child Safeguarding resources have been developed based on feedback from, and engagement with, the WA sports industry and contributions and support from members of the SportWest Child Safeguarding in Sport Advisory Group.

National Sport Plan - Shaping the future direction of sport in Australia

The Commonwealth Government, through the Department of Health and Aged Care, is developing a new National Sport Plan.

The Plan provides an opportunity to harness the power of sport and leverage the decade of major sporting events to reshape the future direction of sport in Australia. This includes making the most of participation, high performance, tourism, trade, employment, inclusion and economic opportunities. The Plan recognises that sport has an important role in Australian communities to promote and uphold inclusion, unity, equality, fairness and social connectedness, and that sport should always be safe for participants and supporters.

The Plan will set a shared vision and priorities to align and leverage key Australian Government sport strategies and plans, and align with state, territory and other sector leaders’ plans. It will provide an overarching framework, guided by four proposed principles that align with national strategies, frameworks and policies, and be underpinned by proposed priority areas for sport.

Public consultation on the Plan is now open and closes on 7 December 2023.

The purpose of the public consultation is to:

  • Provide the sector and interested stakeholders with an opportunity to have their say to inform the development of the Plan; and
  • Seek feedback on the proposed vision, principles, priorities and measures of success of the plan, as well as its alignment with other sector plans and strategies.
