Nominations for WA’s premier sports awards, are now open! 

Nominations for Western Australia’s premier sports awards, the WA Sport Awards, are now open!


We have a range of award categories that recognise excellence in sport and celebrate the achievements across all levels of the WA Sports Industry.


Categories include: WA Sports Star, rebel Junior Sports Star, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year, ActiveXchange Official of the Year, Service to Sport – May Campbell Medal, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries Sports Administrator of the Year, revolutioniseSPORT Community Club of the Year - John Gilmour Medal, and Healthway Healthy Club of the Year.


SportWest are pleased to announce that in addition to the above Award Categories, we will be introducing four new Awards to our 2023 Ceremony; RSM Australia Community Sport Volunteer of the Year, Community Sporting Event of the Year, Sport Initiative of the Year and Organisation of the Year.


Winners will be announced at the WA Sport Awards, at HBF Stadium on Thursday 29 February, 2024. SportWest would like to acknowledge the support of Venue Partner, VenuesWest


Nominations close on Monday 20 November, at 5pm and can be made via the SportWest website

True Sport | Child Safegaurding Forum

There is still time to register for our upcoming True Sport Child Safeguarding in Sport Forum on Thursday 2 November from 9am – 12 noon at Royal Perth Golf Club, following Children’s Week.

This forum will provide the opportunity for WA State Sport Associations to hear about the latest information and requirements around child safety in sport, including how to comply with the Working with Children legislation, and meet members of the SportWest Child Safeguarding in Sport Advisory Group.


Topics covered in the Forum will include:

  • Understanding risk in a child related setting by Sport Integrity Australia

  • National Redress Scheme and Sports

  • Working with Children Legislation compliance overview

  • Q & A panel session with WA Police, Sport Integrity Australia, DLGSC Safeguarding Implementation Unit and representatives from the Working with Children Screening Unit

The newly developed True Sport Child Safeguarding resources will also be launched at this forum. These resources will assist WA State Sport Associations navigate, understand and then start working towards the implementation of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

Game changing leadership: strategy, culture and performance at the Fremantle Football Club

Every Club — Tools and Resources to Unlock Your Clubs Potential

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries invites Community Sporting Clubs to take part in the Every Club Workshop on Monday 20 November. 


The session will commence with a detailed walkthrough of the Game Plan governance tool by the Australian Sports Commission, followed by a range of other guest speakers to showcase a variety of tools and resources for clubs to access.

Do you know someone who is a champion of multiculturalism in sport?

Nominations are now open for the WA Multicultural Awards 2024. The WA Multicultural Awards celebrate individuals and organisations who have made a positive contribution to multiculturalism in Western Australia.

There are a total of ten categories, awarded for contributions to different spheres of public and professional life. 

The Sportsperson of the Year Award is awarded to an individual who, through their commitment to their chosen sport, has lifted the profile of culturally and linguistically diverse communities and contributed to a more harmonious Western Australia.

The recipient of the 2023 Award was netballer Sunday Aryang, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Australian netball and being the first African-born player to represent the Australian Diamonds.


Nominations close at 11:59pm on Sunday 26 November 2023.

NRL WA Harmony Cup 2023

WA Premier Roger Cook will kick off Australia’s biggest multicultural rugby league festival on Saturday as over 5000 players and spectators head to Rockingham for the Harmony Cup Nines festival at the Larkhill Sportsplex.


Hosted by the Rockingham Sharks rugby league club, the event, now in its seventh year, will see over 60 teams take part in men's, women's and junior competitions over three days.


And with teams representing countries from as far away as France it is sure to be a colourful occasion.
