Women of Sport | Joining a Board, What to Expect & How to Get There Workshop |
SportWest, together with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries invite you to join us at our upcoming Women of Sport, Joining a Board - What To Expect and How To Get There Workshop with expert Suzanne Ardagh AM.
This practical and interactive workshop will outline what is required to join a Board. You will gain insights and information on how to position yourself and identify your 'value proposition'.
We will discuss the preparation needed and what the role of a Director requires. Suzanne will discuss how to be an effective Director once you are on the Board and how to make a valid contribution with contemporary skills which are essential for successful Board's today. |

Australian Olympic Team Finalised For Paris 2024 |
The Australian Olympic Team has been finalised with 460 athletes to represent Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in 33 sports.
The team is the third largest to compete at a Games held overseas, behind Tokyo 2020 (486) and Athens 2004 (482). The Australian Team is also likely to be the third largest delegation in Paris.
Some 50% of athletes will make their debuts in Paris compared with 62% at Tokyo 2020 and 64% at Rio 2016 representing Australia for the first time. It’s also a team with the highest percentage of women in our Olympic history. Women represent 55.6% of this team, a far cry from Paris 1924 when there were no women in the Australian Team. |

KidSport Voucher Boost to Ease Cost of Living for WA Families |
The Cook Labor Government has announced a major increase in support for Western Australian families to cover the cost of children's sport - with financial assistance available through KidSport almost doubled for 2025.
Families will be able to apply for up to $500 in KidSport vouchers per eligible child until June 2025 to ensure they can participate in their favourite sport next year. |

Gertrina wants NAIDOC Ball to inspire new generation |
Football West this week revealed their 2024 NAIDOC Ball Design competition winner. Congratulations Gertrina Hayden!
The Thornlie artist proudly showed off the design which has been printed on 500 Deploy T-spec footballs alongside the Belt Up road safety message. Gertrina wants her artwork to inspire more indigenous people to play football. |

Look After Your Wellbeing | EAP/VAP Program
|
Thanks to the support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, SportWest have partnered with Access Wellbeing Services (AWS) to provide mental health and wellbeing counselling and critical incident response to the WA sporting community, through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Volunteer Assistance Program (VAP) pilot program.
The program provides access to free and confidential EAP counselling for SSA staff members working in the industry. Additionally, VAP critical incident response counselling available for SSAs to provide to their community and clubs.
EAP and VAP services critical in nature may be accessed automatically by eligible and participating SSAs by contacting AWS directly. SSA staff should inform AWS that they are part of the SportWest program and provide the name of their organisation. |
