True Sport | Mental Health & Wellbeing Initiative Launch |
On World Mental Health Day, Tuesday 10 October, SportWest announced the official Launch of our True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative.
Through a range of online resources and an eLearning course, the True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative will aid State Sporting Association's (SSA) and other sporting organisation staff to respond to mental health incidents and promote proactive mental health and wellbeing in community sport.
We would like to thank and acknowledge, The Mental Health Project, The Mental Health Commission, Healthway and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, for their support in this initiative. |

True Sport | Child Safegaurding Forum |
On behalf of SportWest, we invite you to attend the True Sport Child Safeguarding Forum, on Thursday 2 November, 2023.
The True Sport Child Safeguarding Forum will provide the opportunity for WA State Sport Associations to hear about the latest information and requirements around child safety in sport, including how to comply with the Working with Children legislation, and meet members of the SportWest Child Safeguarding in Sport Advisory Group.
The newly developed True Sport Child Safeguarding resources will be officially launched at this forum. The initial phase of this initiative will focus on supporting State Sport Associations to create and maintain safe environments for children and young people, aligned with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
SportWest are delighted to announce Lisa Purves, Director Safeguarding, Sport Integrity Australia as one of the guest speakers for this Forum.
A forward-thinking, passionate leader in her field, Lisa is responsible for the development of national safeguarding policies, resources and education to build the capacity of sporting organisations and individuals to provide safe sporting environments. Previously, at the NSW Office of Children’s Guardian, Lisa was responsible for building the capability of organisations who work with children to implement the Child Safe Standards. Lisa has also recently joined the SportWest Child Safeguarding Advisory Group. |

This week, SportWest and the WA Institute of Sport (WAIS) announced that, current CEO, Matt Fulton, will be joining WAIS as Acting CEO on an interim basis from 1 November whilst the WAIS Board recruit for a permanent CEO following Steve Lawrence’s recent departure.
SportWest Chair, Michael Beros, is pleased to share that whilst Matt is at WAIS, Ashleigh Apps, our current Chief Operating Officer will be Acting SportWest CEO. Ashleigh is an experienced leader and passionate about the outcomes that SportWest is striving to achieve for the sporting industry of Western Australia. |

SportWest Board | Notice Seeking Nominations |
This week, SportWest opened nominations for the Elected Board Directors. In accordance with Rule 18.2 of the SportWest Constitution, nominations are sought for suitably qualified individuals who wish to be considered for election as a Board Member at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
At the 2023 AGM there will be an election to fill two Elected Board member positions. Nominations for Elected Board Members must:

In writing using the attached 2023 Nomination Form, including a current CV;

Signed by the nominator; and

Signed by the person who is the candidate for election expressing a willingness to accept the position for which they have been nominated.

2024 NAIDOC Ball Design Competition Now Open |
Just days after unveiling this year’s NAIDOC Ball Design competition winner, Football West and the Insurance Commission of Western Australia are pleased to launch the 2024 edition.
This competition, now in its fifth year, is open to members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Individuals are invited to enter a design, via the link below, with the winner’s artwork printed on 500 footballs alongside the Insurance Commission’s Belt Up road safety message. |

Australian Institute of Sport | 2023 Sport Volunteer of the Year Award |
Presented by Volunteering Australia, the 2023 Sport Volunteer of the Year Award recognises volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to sporting organisations, clubs, teams or programs over the past year.
The award is part of the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) dedication to championing the role of volunteers and it is a key component of the Sport Volunteer Coalition and Action Plan.
