WA Star Caitlin Eynon Wins Inaugural WPBL Championship
|
|
Western Australian baseball star Caitlin Eynon has helped the Los Angeles Queens win the first Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) championship in the United States.
The 23-year-old Melville Braves player capped a memorable season as the Queens defeated the San Francisco Firebells 2-0 in the deciding fifth game at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois, on 22 September, claiming the series 3-2.
Baseball WA CEO, Lachlan Dale, said Eynon continues to be a role model on and off the field. “Caitlin has given everyone in WA baseball something to be proud of. To win a championship in the WPBL’s first season, and deliver when the pressure was on, is a tremendous achievement,” Dale said. |

Dispute Resolution Initiative | Meet the True Sport Preferred Providers
|
|
When challenges arise, having access to the right expertise can make all the difference.
As part of the True Sport Dispute Resolution Initiative, SportWest has established the True Sport Preferred Provider List, connecting sporting organisations across Western Australia with experienced and independently vetted mediators, investigators and dispute resolution practitioners.
This week, we’re highlighting three of the professionals available through the initiative, each bringing a different area of expertise to support sporting organisations in navigating complaints, conflicts, integrity matters and disputes.
Brendan Kays
With more than 30 years’ experience across policing, investigations, sporting governance and integrity, Brendan provides independent investigations, mediation and dispute resolution services. He specialises in National Integrity Framework matters, safeguarding, misconduct, disciplinary disputes and governance.
Keith Wood
Keith is a governance and disciplinary specialist with more than 10 years’ senior leadership experience in sport administration and independent tribunal work. His expertise includes disciplinary matters, grievance resolution, governance, regulations and process improvement.
Kelly Loakes
Kelly is an experienced investigator specialising in workplace and sporting integrity matters. She has extensive experience investigating safeguarding, National Integrity Framework and Code of Conduct matters, taking an independent, impartial and trauma-informed approach.
Explore the True Sport Preferred Provider List to find out more about the providers available to support your organisation.
Each provider has undergone a vetting process involving SportWest, CITS, a State Sporting Association representative and a legal representative. SportWest does not have any involvement in the services providers deliver, how they conduct their work or the outcomes of individual matters. |

Working with Children Check Legislative Changes Now in Effect
|
|
Important changes to Western Australia’s Working with Children (WWC) legislation came into effect on 17 September 2026, further strengthening child safety protections. The amendments introduce mutual recognition of negative WWC outcomes across Australian states and territories, meaning adverse interstate WWC decisions can now be recognised in WA.
Sporting organisations are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the changes and consider any implications for their workforce and volunteer management processes. The WWC Screening Unit will contact organisations directly if any existing card holders are impacted.
For more information, resources and upcoming information sessions, visit the WA Working with Children website. |
