Supporting Safer Journeys Across Sport
|
|
SportWest is encouraging member organisations to strengthen safety beyond the field through a practical Player Safe Driving Policy gaining traction across community sport.
Developed by Samantha Saffioti (Road Safety Advocate | Tom’s Law), recipient of the inaugural Road Safety Commission Best On Road Award at the 2025 WA Sport Award, the policy provides clear, real-world guidance to support safer driving behaviours, particularly among young participants.
It can be adapted across sports and supports organisations to:
- Promote safe travel to and from sport
- Reduce risks at venues, events, and car parks
- Reinforce positive behaviours across your community
Organisations can also connect directly with Samantha to learn from her implementation experience: playsmartdrivesmart@gmail.com
To maximise impact, organisations are encouraged to align policy with SportWest’s Best On Road initiative. Through funding, resources and education, Best On Road helps embed road safety into culture, programs and operations — supporting consistent, sector-wide change.
