SportWest is proud to launch our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), marking an important step in our commitment to building a more inclusive, respectful and equitable sporting community across Western Australia.
As the peak body for sport, we recognise the responsibility and opportunity we have to lead meaningful change. Our RAP sets out clear actions to strengthen relationships, deepen respect and create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across our industry.
This is not a moment in time, but a long-term commitment. A commitment to listening, learning and walking alongside First Nations communities. A commitment to supporting our members to take their own steps on the reconciliation journey. And a commitment to ensuring sport truly reflects the diverse communities it serves.
Together, we can create a stronger, more connected and more inclusive future for sport in Western Australia. |

Championing Culturally Safe and Inclusive Sport Across Western Australia
|
|
Sport has a powerful ability to unite communities - but truly inclusive and culturally safe sport requires leadership, consistency and intentional action.
As the peak body for sport in Western Australia, SportWest is proud to launch the True Sport Cultural Education Initiative, a sector‑wide commitment to strengthening culturally safe, respectful and inclusive sporting environments for First Nations peoples across WA.
Supported by the WA State Government, the True Sport Cultural Education Initiative brings the WA sports sector together to take a unified, proactive and consistent approach to addressing and preventing racial and cultural vilification in sport.
Through leadership, education and reconciliation, the initiative supports sporting organisations to build understanding, challenge harmful behaviours, and embed inclusive practices at every level of sport.
Guided by a dedicated SportWest Cultural Navigation Advisory Group, the initiative ensures First Nations voices, knowledge and lived experience are central to shaping cultural education and inclusion efforts across the sector. |

As part of the True Sport Cultural Education initiative, SportWest will host a free webinar on Monday, 29 June to support organisations to implement inclusive policies in practice.
Webinar: Understanding and Implementing the Racial Discrimination Policy and Toolkit
Creating safe, respectful and welcoming environments is essential across sport and recreation. This session will support organisations to understand, adopt and confidently implement the policy in practical and meaningful ways.
Facilitated by Iain Roy, CEO of Sports Integrity and Governance Partners Australia (SIGPA), the webinar draws on extensive experience in sport integrity and governance, including direct involvement in developing the policy and supporting toolkit.

You’re Invited to Share Your Feedback on Best on Road

SportWest is inviting everyone who has been involved in the Best on Road initiative to take part in a short survey and help shape the future of safer roads through sport.
Best on Road plays an important role in supporting safer participation across sport and community settings in Western Australia. To ensure the initiative continues to meet the needs of clubs, organisations, associations and participants, SportWest is seeking feedback from those who have been involved.
This feedback will help build a clearer picture of the impact of Best on Road, highlight what is working well, and identify opportunities for improvement and future focus.
There are three short surveys, tailored to different types of involvement. Participants are encouraged to complete the survey that best reflects their experience:

- State Sporting Associations (SSA) Survey | Have your say
For SSAs that have engaged with or supported Best on Road.

This is an opportunity for the sport sector to contribute directly to the ongoing development of Best on Road and ensure the initiative continues to support safer outcomes through sport.
The stronger and more diverse the feedback, the greater the impact. SportWest encourages readers to also share the survey links with others in their networks who have been involved in Best on Road.

WA Disabled Sports Association | Inclusive Communication Education Session
|

WA Disabled Sports Association and Developmental Disability WA are inviting anyone involved in delivering sport, recreation, or community activities to join a practical online workshop focused on inclusion, communication, and supporting people with disabilities.
The workshop will share practical strategies to help build confidence in delivering inclusive activities, understanding communication and behaviour, and adapting activities to support participation.
The session will cover:
• Practical sport and recreation scenarios
• Communication and inclusion strategies
• Behaviour as communication
• Lived experience insights and discussion
To keep the workshop practical, interactive, and engaging, participation is capped at 30 people. Early registrations are encouraged. |

PeopleSense by Altius Announced as new EAP/VAP Provider

True Sport has announced a new Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Volunteer Assistance Program (VAP) provider, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of Western Australia’s sporting community.
The expanded partnership ensures SportWest members, including State Sporting Associations and their clubs, have even greater access to free, confidential counselling and critical incident support. These services are designed to help staff, volunteers and communities navigate both personal and sport-related challenges, while strengthening the sector’s ability to respond to complex situations. In addition, the introduction of a new app provides a suite of accessible resources, enhancing connectivity and making it easier for members to access support anytime, anywhere.
EAP services offer professional, short-term counselling and wellbeing support for employees, while the VAP provides tailored assistance for volunteers and clubs, particularly in times of critical incidents. Together, these programs are essential in fostering safe, supportive and resilient sporting environments.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.
