Federal Budget 2026–27: Stability for Sport, But Participation Still Needs Greater Priority

The 2026–27 Federal Budget delivers a broadly positive outcome for Australian sport, particularly given the current global economic pressures and wider Government spending priorities. While the Budget does not include transformational new investment into community sport, it does provide important funding certainty across several key areas of the sport system.

The strongest message from this year’s Budget is clear: the Federal Government continues to see sport as an important national asset, particularly in the lead-up to the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Brisbane 2032.

3 Cheers for Volunteers | Campaign Toolkit

This National Volunteer Week, (NVW) (18-24 May) the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is calling on all Australians to give 3 Cheers for Volunteers and recognise the millions of volunteers across Australia who connect our communities through sport. From the city to the outback, and everywhere in between, volunteers are the heart of Australia’s sporting story and this year we’re putting their stories on the map!

From 18 May you can visit the Volunteer Map, to find and nominate the sport volunteers over 18 years old who make a difference in your community and give them 3 Cheers today!

SportWest encourages the WA sport sector to support and amplify National Volunteer Week. To make it easy to get involved, the ASC have developed a suite of ready-to-use resources including social media assets, digital banners and key messaging to help you share the campaign with your network.

Women Leaders in Sport | Grant Opportunities

Applications for the Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) Equity Governance Grants and WLIS Organisation Grants close today.

Open to all women, with a strong focus on those from under‑represented groups, including First Nations women, women with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse women, LGBTIQ+ women, and those living in regional and remote communities, these grants provide access to high‑quality governance education that builds capability, confidence and representation in sport leadership. A total of $120,000 is available, with grants of up to $10,000 per individual.

The WLIS Organisation Grants complement this by supporting sport organisations to strengthen the policies, systems and cultures that drive gender equity.
