WA Sport Industry Conference | Meet our Sepakers |
|
In every corner of Western Australia, sport has the power to unite communities, shape lives and create lasting impact. But great sport doesn’t happen by chance - it’s driven by leaders with vision, purpose and a commitment to lifting others.
We’re thrilled to unveil three powerhouse additions to the speaker roster for this year’s WA Sport Industry Conference. Professor Sophia Nimphius, a trailblazer in human performance and sport science, brings decades of leadership and research expertise to the stage.
Jenny Devine and Rachel Monamy - two dynamic voices driving innovation and inclusion across WA’s sporting landscape. Their collective insights promise to spark fresh thinking and elevate the conversation around sport’s future in our state.
We are proud to present this year’s conference in partnership with the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, whose commitment to advancing sport and recreation in WA helps make this event possible.
Whether you lead on the field, in the boardroom, or behind the scenes, this is your moment to connect, learn and help shape the future of sport in Western Australia.
Let’s lead, together. |

Parent Perspectives Survey |
|
In partnership with the WA Government and The University of Western Australia, SportWest is proud to launch the next phase of our parent engagement strategy: the statewide Parent Perspectives Survey.
This survey will help us to capture the real experiences, motivations, and challenges faced by parents and carers – both within and beyond sport. The insights gained will form the foundation of our parent communications and provide essential baseline data for future comparison, with the next survey scheduled in two years.
Data collection began this week, 1 September 2025, and will run for five weeks until 5 October 2025.
By completing this survey SportWest will place participants in the draw to win one of four Rebel Sport gift cards valued between $100 and $500. Full terms and conditions are available on our website. |

The WA Government continues to develop the Community Use of School Sporting Infrastructure Program in consideration of community needs. This new initiative aims to improve safety and usability of school sporting facilities, enabling expanded community access through the installation of lighting infrastructure.
The program, developed by the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) and the Department of Education, will identify, expand and enhance opportunities to:

-
improve school sporting facilities and their useability
-
support schools in making their sporting facilities accessible outside school hours without compromising student safety or educational activities
-
encourage partnerships between schools and community sporting groups through community use agreements
-
focus on areas of high demand for community sporting facilities.
The funding will be allocated to ensure facilities are appropriate and accessible for community sporting use.
Schools are invited to express interest in this expanded program by completing the form below and submitting to communityuse@cits.wa.gov.au. Expressions of Interest close Friday 26 September 2025. |

What do the Social Media Age Restrictions Mean for Sport? |
|
Australia is building a culture of safety online – just like we’ve done on our beaches. Because the internet, like the ocean, is not going away – and our kids are already dipping their toes in.
From mid-December, the Australian Government will require certain social media services to take steps to prevent under 16s from having accounts. The age restrictions are likely to apply to Facebook, Instagram Snap Chat and YouTube, among others.
Social media services are used widely in sport. Grassroots clubs and volunteers often rely on them for communication and logistics. For sport leaders it’s important to know:
-
The responsibility lies with the platform. There are no penalties for children, parents or people supervising children— only for platforms that fail to take reasonable steps to prevent under 16s from having accounts.
-
You're not alone. eSafety will provide information to help you prepare for the changes, and how to support young people in your communities.
While the specific details still being developed, we suggest sport organisations start to consider:
-
How young people and clubs currently use social media as part of their sport?
-
What policies, training or resources may need to be reviewed or updated?

SportWest Launches True Sport Respectful Relationships Initiative to Champion Respect in WA Sport |
|
Sport brings people together. It’s where communities connect, values are shaped, and culture is built. That’s why sport is such a powerful platform to influence attitudes, challenge harmful norms, and promote equality.
SportWest is proud to officially launch our newest True Sport initiative: True Sport Respectful Relationships.
Developed in partnership with Starick, Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport and the Department of Communities, this initiative empowers sporting organisations and clubs across Western Australia to take a proactive role in preventing family and domestic violence. Through education, training, and practical resources, it supports the integration of respectful relationships into the everyday culture of sport.
Starick is a Perth-based, independent not-for-profit organisation working to end family and domestic violence. Their Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program (RRSRP) was created to support sporting organisations build capacity around respect, inclusion, safety and gender equality, laying the groundwork for long-term cultural change.
With sport’s incredible reach across WA, from juniors to seniors, metro to regional, consistent messaging from peak bodies can reinforce the values of respect and equality across every code and every season.
We invite all SportWest members to get involved with this initiative. Explore the resources, engage with the training, and be part of creating safer, respectful sporting environments for everyone. |
