Welcome to the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport |
|
This week, the portfolios of Creative Industries, Tourism, Sport and Multicultural Interests have joined to become the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS).
This follows the Public Sector Reform announced by Premier Roger Cook MLA on 31 March which reflects a renewed focus on the priorities of the Western Australian community including creating more jobs and a stronger, more diversified economy.
The reform includes the local government and racing, gaming and liquor divisions, joining the newly created Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety.
CITS will continue to work collaboratively with government, community organisations, peak bodies and other stakeholders to achieve our vision of Western Australia being celebrated as the best place to live, work and visit in Australia. |

Creating Inclusive Recreational Spaces for Girls |
|
The Girls’ Recreational Spaces Project, led by Nature Play WA, is focused on understanding the barriers that prevent teen girls from using public recreational spaces, and identifying ways to design and plan for better inclusion.
The aim of Nature Play WA’s Girls Recreational Spaces project is to support local governments, designers, developers, landscape architects, and State Government departments in creating recreational spaces that encourage and empower girls to engage in them; fostering social connection, inclusivity, and improved health and wellbeing in the process.
Nature Play are inviting people who shape and use public spaces to help us ensure tween and teen girls feel welcome and safe in recreational areas. |

Expressions of interest open for Stage 1 of Malaga Sports Precinct |
|
The WA Government has opened Expressions of Interest (EOI) for construction partners to deliver Stage 1 of the Malaga Sports Precinct — a landmark project set to transform sporting infrastructure in Perth’s growing north-eastern corridor.
An investment of $20 million has been committed to finalise concept design and commence site investigations, to ensure the precinct meets the long-term needs of the community.
Stage 1 of the precinct is set to deliver dedicated purpose-built facilities for a variety of sporting codes, including rugby league, rugby union and AFL.
Strategically located adjacent to the new Malaga METRONET station and close to the Perth Film Studios, the Malaga Sports Precinct will leverage the Government's significant transport infrastructure investment to create a connected sporting hub, accessible via public transport, from across the metropolitan area.
The EOI process will identify suitably qualified construction partners to progress to the formal tender stage. |

Creating an Inclusive Sporting Environment |
|
Did you know that the culture of a sporting organisation, club or group can have a positive or negative influence on member’s mental health and wellbeing?
Your sporting organisation has the opportunity to foster a culture that promotes positive mental health and wellbeing, and drive inclusivity for all members. An inclusive culture will be created by demonstrating through actions and policy that mental health and wellbeing issues are important and deserve time and attention.
The purpose of this Creating an Inclusive Sporting Environment Tipsheet is to provide you with information on the things that your organisation can do to create an inclusive culture.
