Inspiring Women Series: Session 1 | Building Connections and Leading with Impact

SportWest are thrilled to launch the Inspiring Women Series with special guest Caitlin Bassett – sports commentator, broadcast journalist, and former elite netballer. With her decorated 17-year career that includes captaining the Australian Diamonds, winning two World Championships, a Commonwealth Games gold medal, and back-to-back Super Netball premierships, Caitlin brings a wealth of lived experience in performing and leading at the highest level.
Since retiring in 2021, Caitlin has made an impact off the court, working in athlete wellbeing and development with The Western Force. Drawing on her career in media and a Graduate Certificate in Counselling, she supports elite athletes in navigating their career, education, and personal growth.
Following Caitlin’s inspiring keynote, participants will take part in a practical session on the importance of building a strong support network and embracing opportunities, even before you feel fully ready. You’ll explore how connection, community, and self-belief are an essential foundation for developing as a confident and effective leader. Whether you're beginning your journey or ready to take the next step, this session will equip you with the tools and motivation to lead with purpose.

2025 Volunteering WA State Conference
|

Held every two years, the Volunteering WA State Conference (6 & 7 November 2025) is Western Australia's leading event for the volunteering sector.
Over 200 delegates will join us on Thursday 6 & Friday 7 November 2025 in Perth for two days of keynotes, discussions, and workshops analysing the latest volunteering research, trends, techniques, and case studies to help volunteer involving organisations make the greatest impact in the community.

Volunteering WA are currently inviting expressions of interest from speakers, open until 30 June 2025. Volunteering WA especially keen to feature practical presentations offering tools, strategies, or case studies that delegates can apply within their own organisations and communities. If you're interested in presenting or know someone whose work aligns with our theme, please let me know! Volunteering WA would love to hear from you.
Conference Subsidies
To help make the conference accessible, Volunteering WA is offering several subsidies, with the first round of applications open until 28 July 2025.

Youth Registration Subsidy: Thanks to the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, young people aged 30 and under can apply for free conference registration.

Rural & Regional Subsidies: With support from Lotterywest, regional volunteer managers and leaders can apply for assistance with travel, accommodation. Additional support for registration costs is available for not-for-profits with annual revenue under $1.5 million.

2026 Scholarship & Mentoring Program | Applications Now Open |

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF) Scholarship & Mentoring Program, supported by the Australian Sports Commission, incorporating the Australian Institute of Sport, and Harvey Norman, assists young elite athletes on their journey to excellence and success on the world stage, awarding $150,000 in funding to 32 athletes each year.
The three-tiered scholarship program sits amongst the most elite programs in Australia, if not the world. Connecting Australia’s next generation of athletic talent with the greats of Australian sport by providing scholarship holders with unrivalled access to SAHOF Members, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. |

Public drop-in forums scheduled for Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct |
|
The new Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct at Burswood Park will bring sport, culture, and community together in a dynamic, multi-purpose destination of State-wide significance.
An online community consultation platform opened on 15 May 2025 and has since received more than 450 contributions covering topics including special events, local environment, connectivity and community use.
Four public drop-in forums and community feedback sessions have now been confirmed to be held in June, which will provide the opportunity for community to hear more about the precinct, speak directly with the project team, including technical experts, and provide feedback on what they'd like to see incorporated. |

Mental Health First Aid | 2-Day Course |
|
SportWest have partnered with Happiness Co to deliver a 2-day Mental Health First Aid Course to SportWest Members, the course includes a Mental Health First aid manual and accreditation.
This course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.
Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem and the treatments and supports available.
Happiness Co is one of Australia's top well-being, mental health and happiness training providers working with over 180,000 people in the last five years. They help individuals, teams and organisations where it matters most - personal development, proactive mental health, inclusion, belonging and happiness. Taking a proactive approach that helps individuals build self-awareness, confidence and courage to feel empowered to reach their potential in all aspects of life.
The recommended retail price for this course is $319. However, thanks to the support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Happiness Co, we are offering this accreditation to members for only $120.
Participants must attend both sessions to receive accreditation.

SportWest's Collaborate with Starick to Prevent Gender-Based Violence in Sport in WA |
|
SportWest and Starick continue to grow our partnership and promote respectful relationships and gender equality in a bid to stop violence against women and girls before it starts. Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager and Rebekah Yeow, True Sport Project Officer participated in Starick's Respectful Relationships workshop on Wednesday, 28 May 2025 at The Hub, Bentley Technology Park amongst a number of State Sporting Associations, sport and recreation clubs, youth organisations and regional local governments.
SportWest's True Sport program will continue to expand in the near future and further bolster the supports for the West Australian sporting sector with a True Sport Respectful Relationships Initiative on the cusp of launching to the sector. The initiative will provide resources, eLearning, tools and workshops for the sector to prevent gender-based violence by creating inclusive, equitable, healthy, and safe environments in sport.
Starick's Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program is a State Government priority to prevent family and domestic violence through respectful relationships. To find out about becoming a participant in our program contact rre@starick.org.au
