Beyond the Boundary Line: A footy icon’s fight for a cure.

Auspire – Australia Day Council WA presents an Inspiring Australians’ Lunch with special guest, Neale Daniher AO, during his only visit to Perth this year.

Neale Daniher AO is an AFL legend, playing with Essendon FC before coaching the Melbourne Demons and relocating to Western Australia to join the coaching team at Fremantle Dockers.

In 2008, Neale became general manager of the West Coast Eagles, until 2013, when tragically, he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND).

Since his diagnosis, Neale, with the unwavering support of his family, has been battling the debilitating effects of the disease in the public eye, tirelessly campaigning and raising awareness of MND as co-founder of FightMND, a charity that has raised and invested over $115 million into medical research. The annual Big Freeze event at the MCG embodies Neale’s ethos of turning adversity into an opportunity for celebration and hope.

Hear more of his inspiring story at this Inspiring Australians’ Lunch at Optus Stadium. Tickets are limited.

Two-course lunch included. Dietary requirements can only be guaranteed for bookings made before Tuesday 1 April, 2025.

  • Types of online abuse and weapons commonly used
  • The impacts of online abuse personally and professionally
  • Setting up social media accounts with safety in mind
  • Using proactive actions and de-escalation strategies including reporting

Resource Spotlight | National Principle 6

In partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, let's explore our True Sport resource dedicated to National Principle 6 of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. It is important that sporting organisations have processes to respond to complaints and concerns, and that these processes are child focused.

True Sport's National Principle 6 resource is here to assist accessible, child-focused complaint handling processes for sporting leaders, staff and volunteers as well as where to report in Western Australia.

Here are some great examples of SSA actions to work towards implementing National Principle 6:

  • Identify and address any barriers for children and young people or families providing feedback, raising concerns or making a formal complaint;
  • Review the cultural appropriateness of your complaint handling processes;
  • Ensure there are multiple pathways and accessible options to make complaints and raise concerns.

Find out more information on National Principle 6 and responding to complaints and concerns with a child-focused lens.
