SportWest Connect | Coaching, Officiating & Participation
|
|
Until recently, sports technology was seen as the domain of elite teams and professional athletes. However, with rapid technological advances and the Internet / Mobile Age growth, the cost to develop and deploy sports technologies is declining fast. This presents the opportunity to expand the use of sports technologies into sub-elite, youth sports and the weekend warrior markets.
This session will explore how sports technologies are being used to improve coaching, performance, talent ID, skill acquisition and fitness of aspiring teams and athletes. We will explore what technologies the Australian Sports Technologies Network (ASTN) is seeing emerging in the market - from video and data capture to mobile apps, wearables and instrumented sports equipment. We will also look into what the future looks like as AI, VR, AR and XR become mainstream technologies.
Date: Wednesday 2 April 2025.
Time: 5:30pm - 7pm Location: SportHQ – 203 Underwood Ave, Floreat

Many companies, sporting organisations and clubs have intensified their search for new ideas. This includes looking both inside their organisations and seeking external influence. However, many ideas, both internal as well as externally sourced, have fallen victim to established processes within existing organisations. Existing management processes, brand value, purchasing and human resources policies can create conflict when established organisations turn to founders in their quest for ideas.
This is where a facilitated process run by an innovation intermediary, like the Australian Sports Technologies Network (ASTN) open innovation pathway can help.
The large organisation benefits from innovative thinking and the latest technology innovations, whilst the small startup gets the chance to tap into real customers and markets. As a result, both sides utilise the opportunity to validate ideas and gain access to new resources through solving real-world questions.
Date: Thursday 3 April 2025 Time: 8:30am for a 9am start, concluding by 10am Location: SportHQ - 203 Underwood Ave, Floreat

Resource Spotlight | National Principle 5 |
|
This week's Spotlight Series, in partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, focuses on True Sport's Child Safeguarding National Principle 5 resource: 'People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.'
National Principle 5 of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations demonstrates the importance of prioritising child safety and wellbeing in sports. It outlines key principles and strategies to create safe and supportive environments where children can participate and thrive.
Integrating child safe principles into sporting organisations requires a comprehensive approach. Our dedicated resource includes helpful sport-specific tips to assist in implementing National Principle 5 such as conducting thorough risk assessments, developing robust policies and procedures, recruitment and pre-employment screening with a child-safe focus, and implementing effective safeguarding mechanisms to protect children from harm eg. Working with Children Checks and up-to-date registrations.
Find out more about National Principle 5 and how your organisation can embed child safe practices check out our dedicated True Sport resource here or reach out to truesport@sportwest.com.au for more support. |
