International Women's Day Morning Tea | March Forward.

SportWest and the Women of Sport Network invite you to join us for the 2025 International Women's Day Morning Tea. This event is proudly brought to you by Perth Racing.

This year’s theme “March Forward”, highlights the strides we’ve made toward gender equity while inspiring us to continue shaping a more inclusive future.

We are thrilled to welcome two outstanding speakers:

Kade Harvey, General Manager of High-Performance Cricket and Elite Teams at WA Cricket. With over 30 years in the sport as a player, selector, coach, and board member, he has been instrumental in evolving WA’s high-performance system. Under his leadership, WA Cricket has achieved historic success, establishing an equitable high-performance environment for both men’s and women’s programs. Kade is also a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, leading WA Cricket’s Reconciliation Action Plans and its Indonesia MOU under the ICC’s Global Cricket Strategy.

Dr. Sophia Nimphius, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sport) and Professor of Human Performance at Edith Cowan University. A leading researcher and advocate, she has worked extensively in athlete performance, health, and gender equity in sport. Her expertise has led to collaborations with FIFA, the Women’s Tennis Association, and the Australian Institute of Sport. With a career dedicated to advancing women in sport and driving systemic change, Sophia’s insights continue to shape the future of sports leadership.

Together, Kade and Sophia’s talks will offer a compelling vision of what it means to "March Forward" in sport. Kade will provide a practical lens on implementing equity within systems and teams, while Sophia will address the broader implications of equity and leadership in driving cultural transformation.

Enjoy a morning of meaningful discussions, networking opportunities, and a delicious morning tea.

Transgender Participation in Sport Forum

SportWest invites you to join us at this forum addressing the complex issue of inclusion policies for trans athletes, particularly transwomen, in female sports. The key concern is balancing fairness, safety, and integrity in competitions where physical attributes like strength, speed, and power are crucial.

Using an evidence-based approach, the session will explore the biological and sports science factors that impact competition, highlighting retained advantages of male-born athletes post-transition. It will examine how current policies may compromise fairness and safety for female athletes at both elite and grassroots levels.

Possible solutions, such as an Open or Third category, will be discussed. The seminar aims to equip sports leaders with scientific knowledge and practical tools to engage in informed, respectful discussions and create fair policies. Attendees will gain clarity on this pressing issue and contribute to shaping inclusive yet equitable solutions in women's sports.

Resource Spotlight | National Principle 1

The True Sport Child Safeguarding Initiative aims to assist State Sport Associations (SSAs) to understand, navigate and then start to action the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. We all have a role to play in keeping children and young people safe in sport!

This week, in partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, we are highlighting National Principle 1: Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.

One of the ways your sporting organisation can start to work towards implementing National Principle 1 is a Statement of Commitment to Child Safety. A commitment to child safety is more than just words. It's about creating a culture where child safety is championed and modelled at all levels of a sporting organisation. It is a culture that starts from the top down and comes from the bottom up too!

True Sport's public commitment to child safety is a great starting point to demonstrate to existing, potential future members  and general public the importance your sporting organisation places on child safety.

Take a look at the True Sport National Principle 1 resource to access a Statement of Commitment to Child Safety template or contact our True Sport team truesport@sportwest.com.au to get started! This resource includes lots of other ways your organisation can embed child safety and wellbeing into leadership, governance and culture!
