Big-name WA talent, community clubs headline 2024 WA Sport Awards Finalists |
Finalists for the 2024 WA Sport Awards have been confirmed, with Olympic medallists, community clubs and a host of volunteers set to be honoured when awards are presented on Thursday 6 February 2025 at Optus Stadium.
With almost 200 nominations to be celebrated, SportWest CEO Troy Kirkham said the WA Sport Awards continue to illustrate the integral role of sport in the lives of West Australians.
“With the SportWest WA Sport Awards recognising so many unbelievable performances over the past year, we’re really excited to celebrate these achievements.
"It’s such a unique occasion on the WA sporting calendar to have community clubs, volunteers and administrators all honoured together in one special night alongside our high performing athletes, teams, coaches and officials. The community plays such a vital role in the pathway to greatness, and the WA Sport Awards are an occasion where everyone comes together to celebrate the contributions and achievements at every level of sport," said Mr Kirkham.

Women’s Mentor Program | Coaches and Officials |
Applications are now open for the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Women’s Mentor Program, in partnership the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), for community coaches and officials who identify as women.
During this program, coaches and officials will be supported by the ASC team to develop and implement mentor programs, and drive gender equity and positive sport experiences for women and girls within their club or organisation.
The program provides an immersive experience focusing on equity, inclusion and cultural safety to provide greater access to sport. It’s about enabling, empowering and supporting women mentors, with the tools to influence positive change and navigate change management in their clubs or organisation.

WA Triathlon | Supporting ADHD in Sport |
With the support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Triathlon WA have created a three-part online education series to help coaches and support staff build their understanding around supporting athletes with ADHD.
Held across January – March, these three sessions will explore what ADHD is and provide some much needed information for the sporting community to raise awareness and curiosity.
Session 1 - Monday 13 January- 5.30 - 6.30pm (AWST) | Understanding ADHD – this session will be facilitated by Fiona Alexander (from ADHD WA and REACH ADHD Coaching and Consulting) on understanding what ADHD is, how it might present for different people and how we can support neurodiverse athletes or people in our lives. Session 2 - Monday 10 February – 5.30 - 6.30pm (AWST) | Filling the gaps with ADHD Coach Meghan Birks. Meghan will speak to the challenges of ADHD in sport especially. Register Here.
Session 3 - Monday 10 March – 5.30 - 6.30pm (AWST) | Lived Experience –This story telling session where athletes, coaches and parents share stories of the impact ADHD had on their sporting journey to spark curiosity around how different coaching practices might help or hinder progression, or what support considerations might be useful to consider in your training environment. Australian Institute of Management | Community Training Grant Applications Now Open |
Every year the Australian Institute of Management WA recognise the work of not-for-profit (NFP) organisations and aspiring professionals in the community, wishing to embark on professional development. The Community Training Grant provides training up to the value of $3,000 for organisations and up to $4,000 for individuals that can be used to fund participation on a selection of training courses offered by the Institute.
The grants are part of their ongoing commitment to shaping management, leadership and workplace excellence in the Western Australian community.
Organisations and Individuals can apply for a Community Training Grant within the following categories:
- Organisational - within the NFP sector;
- Ben Scott Young Professional - ambitious young individuals who are just starting out in their career; and
- First Nations people - individuals working or looking to work within a leadership role and want to undertake professional development to support this

SportsLink Travel | World Masters Games, Taiwan 2025 |
SportsLink Travel is the Preferred Travel and Tour Partner of SportWest and have put together a fantastic opportunity to join their team traveling to the World Masters Games in Taiwan May 2025. With over 25 different sports to choose from, you can register your interest as an individual or a team. The event runs from 17-30 May in Taipei City with each sport competing at different dates throughout this period.
SportsLink Travel have personally visited the hotels and venues in Taipei and the initial uptake of participants has been great, with this final opportunity to be involved if you register your interest by Monday 3rd February.

Prioritise your Wellbeing this New Year | EAP/VAP Program |
A mentally healthier 2025 starts now!
Thanks to the support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, mental health support is available for sports through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Volunteer Assistance Program (VAP) program for eligible organisations.
Services are available in metro, regional and remote communities. Other services under this program include:
- Counselling services
- Conflict management
- Critical incident management
- Manager support
- Manager initiated referral
- Wellness checks
- Specialised training.
The program has been expanded to provide access to up to five (5) one-hour free and confidential EAP counselling sessions through both the EAP and VAP to proactively support staff, club members and volunteers!
EAP and VAP services critical in nature may be accessed automatically by eligible and participating SSAs by contacting Access Wellbeing Services (AWS) directly. SSA staff should inform AWS that they are part of the SportWest program and provide the name of their organisation. |
