Women of Sport Christmas Luncheon Raises $6420 for Worthy Australia Safe Haven Program |
SportWest is thrilled to announce the resounding success of the recent Women of Sport Christmas Luncheon, presented by Hyundai, which raised an impressive $6,420 for Worthy Australia. This generous amount will fund not just one, but three Worthy Australia Safe Havens.
The Worthy Safe Haven Program plays a crucial role in transforming empty houses into homes for women and children escaping domestic violence. These beautifully furnished homes provide families with not just safety and comfort, but also the priceless gifts of hope, self-worth, and a brighter future.
Michelle Hort, SportWest’s Women of Sport Project Coordinator, reflected on the success of the event. “At SportWest, we are proud to support the incredible work of Worthy Australia and contribute to meaningful change through events like the Women of Sport Christmas Luncheon. Celebrating the achievements of women working in sport while raising vital funds for such a critical cause exemplifies the power of sport to create safer and more inclusive communities”.

2025 Diversity and Inclusion in Sport Forum: Belonging in Sport |
Join Diversity and Inclusion in Sport Alliance (DISA) and the incredible line-up of speakers at the 2025 Diversity & Inclusion in Sport Forum!
Hear from inspirational diversity and inclusion experts and change makers to discuss how sport can use ‘belonging’ as a framework for greater inclusion of Australia’s diverse communities.
The theme for this forum is ‘Belonging in Sport’.
Belonging was identified by the forum planning committee (a DISA sub-committee) as a fundamental aspect of inclusion and an appropriate theme to relate back to last year’s theme of ‘Intersectionality in sport’.
Learn more about the day and guest speakers, including Jade Narkle (she/her), Aboriginal & Diversity Programs Specialist, West Australian Football Commission.

Self-Care over the Christmas Break |
As school holidays begin and we come into the closure period, it’s important we take a minute to acknowledge that for some, the Christmas and New Years period can also be a time of high stress.
We encourage all members of the WA sporting community to remain vigilant with self-care and keep an eye on the mental health and wellbeing of family and friends around you. Some tips to stay safe and maintain wellbeing during this period are below:
- Don’t overspend – your presence is more important than your presents!
- Conscious consumption of alcohol – count your drinks, use this free drink checker tool
- Don’t drink and drive – take a look at some other safe tips when on our roads this Christmas:
- Talk to a mate – check in on your friends and family who might be doing it tough
- Use the EAP/VAP service – don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed, chat to our friendly counselling team today! Details on the True Sport EAP/VAP program and how to access it for eligible organisations can be found here.
Stay safe and don’t forget your mental health and wellbeing this break! |
