National Sport Strategy 2024 – 2034 | Sport Horizon

The decade of major sporting events leading up to, and including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, creates a window of opportunity to reimagine Australian sport and bring about unprecedented cooperation and alignment of the sport sector. Working together we will harness the power of sport for healthy, active and connected communities, to create positive, meaningful change.

Sport Horizon is Australia’s new national sport strategy. It sets the direction and aspiration for the Commonwealth, state and territory governments, communities, and sporting organisations to create thriving systems.

Sport Horizon will ensure more people play and enjoy sport in safer environments. It will create world-leading pathways for our most talented people, better support weekend warriors and the volunteers who turn events into celebrations.

New Course to Tackle Racism in Community Sport

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has partnered with Reflect Forward to launch a free online course to help community coaches, umpires, participants and volunteers deal with incidents of racism in the moment they occur.

The course guides participants through scenarios and techniques in how to play the role of a first responder and intervening in the first 60 seconds that an incident occurs.

It also provides tips for clubs about how to create a safe environment for participants and to continue to support victims of racism on an ongoing basis.

Mental Health Month | Spotlight Series

For our second Sport Spotlight Series for Mental Health Month we have Football West. In October, Football West will conclude its 2024 Kick Off the Conversation program, with winning clubs announced on 24th October.

Before the program wrapped up, they also hosted a free webinar on 2nd October, presented by Richmond Wellbeing. This session, titled 'Online De-escalation Skills and Trauma,' aimed to equip club members with the skills to recognise and respond to signs of distress or trauma, fostering a safe and supportive environment within the football community.

The Kick off the Conversation program promotes mental health and wellbeing within the football community and is supported by our partner, Healthway. "We are pleased to see the interest and engagement level of our clubs with the Kick off the Conversation program. It highlights how committed our football community is to fostering open discussions around mental health and wellbeing. By participating in this initiative, clubs, coaches and volunteers are helping to create a supportive environment, ensuring that mental health is prioritised both on and off the pitch." - Monica Naves, Partnerships Manager - Football West.
