More Sport Their Way! | Promoting Women’s Informal Sport Participation in WA

Researchers at Edith Cowan University are undertaking a project with funding support from Healthway to inform promotional strategies and initiatives that can increase opportunities for girls and women in Western Australia to enjoy informal sport participation in their communities. Community-based informal sport offers major health benefits for participants. Recent research affirms the growth in popularity of informal sport, evidences its health and social significance, but also highlights social and systemic barriers to participation – with women under-represented in current participation.

The research team are therefore asking people across all sports and throughout the state to help empower girls and women in WA to increase physical activity in their lives and enjoy More Sport – Their Way! The project’s on-line survey is seeking input from women in WA who want to see more opportunities to enjoy informal sport participation in their communities. If you are 16 years of age or older, whatever your current participation in sport, we would love to hear your participation experiences and views.
